Employment and Graduate School Attendance, Fall 2009
Employment
All undergraduate and graduate students with degrees or certificates conferred in May and August 2009 were asked to complete an online survey to gather information about their career development. The survey request went out in November 2009. A follow-up request was sent in December 2009.
A total of 370 students were asked to complete the survey. The response rate was 31%. The margin of error is +/- 10% for undergraduate students, +/- 13% for graduate students, and +/-8% overall.
Survey respondents were asked what sector of the economy they began working in after graduation, whether their major relates to their job, and how much they earn.

Graduate School Attendance
Data on the pursuit of graduate education were obtained from the National Student Clearinghouse for undergraduate students with degrees conferred in May and August 2009. The data were obtained in November 2009.
- Of the 215 undergraduates, a total of 52 (24%) were attending a four-year institution in Fall 2009
- Twenty-eight (28) continued as graduate students at Saint Joseph College
- Fourteen (14) attended in-state institutions, including 9 at UConn's School of Social Work
- The remaining 10 students attended out-of-state institutions
- Of the 24 students not attending SJC, 10 attended private institutions and 14 attended public institutions
Note: The National Student Clearinghouse does not provide information on students' programs of study. Furthermore, it labels institutions only as two-year or four-year (with no distinction in the latter category between institutions that confer bachelor's degrees only versus graduate degrees). Thus, for schools other than SJC, students were presumed to be attending as graduate students. Those attending SJC are confirmed to be graduate students.
