Director, Dietetic Internship Program / Practicum Placement Coordinator

The incumbent in this position serves as the Director, Administrator, Instructor, and Preceptor of the Dietetic Internship Program.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Administers the application process for prospective students and acceptance of students on a yearly basis. Involves D&D computer matching, letters of acceptance, deposits of application fees, yearly revision of application letter and brochure as required, follow-up letters to students, interviews of prospective students, inquiries of program via phone, and other duties as required by application/acceptance process.
  • Coordinates the collection of new students physical forms, i.e., Hepatitis B inoculations, health insurance requirements, referrals for financial aid, housing, and others as required.
  • Administers, coordinates, markets and actively seeks, on a yearly basis, new and old practicum facility site placements of dietetic interns. 64 sites required per year.
  • Orients and instructs dietetic interns for one week in Fall and Spring semester prior to entering facility practicum. Orientation consists of instruction from 9am-4pm for five days for a total of 35 hours each semester.
  • Acts as or assists a preceptor/adjunct to precept the dietetic interns
  • Instructs, develops, and coordinates dietetic internship classes which occur six or seven times per semester. Responsible for coordinating guest speakers, pertinent conferences, meetings, and other professional events. Develops class day topics, lectures, and provides instruction. (100 hours of class time per year).
  • Designs, directs and evaluates activities related to the dietetic intern experiences including 60 projects, research outcome studies, poster session presentations at the Connecticut Dietetic Association. (CDA) Spring meetings, a health promotion fair, and nominations for awards (Outstanding DI for CDA.)
  • Acts as liaison between Saint Joseph College and various practicum facility sites. Review of contracts and insurance liability requirements as required.
  • Provide year round advisement for dietetic students. Do exit interviews at completion of program.
  • Administers and coordinates activities related to the completion of the program including verification statements, certificates of completion, letters of reference, referrals, ADA pins, and registration of the graduating interns for the AND registration exam by disk.
  • Conducts follow-up evaluation of graduates one year after completion of DI program.
  • Administers and coordinates by mail and phone communications with past students to identify employment and career changes.
  • Administers and acts as job bank resource for graduating students, posts job openings and communicates openings to students and postgraduates.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum MS in Nutrition; must be a RD.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a hospital, nursing home or clinical setting.
  • Two or more years of clinical experience
  • Previous teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially, balance and prioritize assignments, manage projects, problem solve and experienced in conflict resolution
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, general database knowledge and ability to learn new software programs such as Microsoft Publishing required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including tactfulness; demonstrated ability to work effective with student learners representing diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent powers of observation and perception
  • High degree of organizational skills
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving skills
  • Experience in effective crisis management
  • Ability to work independently
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel using personal car for site visits.
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Grade 40
