End Of The Year!

I cannot believe my first year at Saint Joseph College is over! As you can see by looking at my blog I have been to many different events and have had many experiences and it has only been my first year! Don't worry though I will be back to my blog when school starts again with more events and more topics to discuss! Also when I return it won't be to Saint Joseph College but to University of Saint Joseph! Have a great summer and look for new blog posts in late August/early September! Here is a picture of part of the SJC campus before it turns into USJ!

The New Commuter Board

When I was walking through McGovern lounge this past week I noticed this new bulletin board made! I looked into it and discovered that my commuter friend Kathleen Keating made the board! A first year at SJC, she has been trying to make a community for the commuters at our college! She has made a Facebook page, Twitter account and now this bulletin board! I think what she is doing is awesome and that it will bring commuters on campus to be more involved and will allow both residents and commuters to connect and make new friendships!

TEAM Hosts Stand Against Racism Event

Today, I went to an event hosted by TEAM called Stand Against Racism. This brief event was a time for reflection and to make a pledge against racism. The turn out for this was great and I felt that as a college we are uniting together to fight racism. Here is a picture of a few girls who came to this event!

Class of 2015 Shirts

If you haven't seen these shirts all over campus already you are now seeing the final product                                 of the shirts that the Class of 2015 ordered! These shirts are really awesome and I like how                                they unite our class together and we plan on getting different shirts every year! Here is a                                           picture of some girls who are apart of the Class of 2015 wearing their new shirts!

Symposium Day

Yesterday, I went to Symposium Day! This day on campus is really cool because students from different years and different majors present presentations on different topics they have researched! SJC's Take Back The Night

Last night, I went to the SJC's 3rd Annual Take Back The Night! This awareness program was really powerful and it made me more aware of sexual violence and domestic abuse. I really enjoyed going on the candlelight vigil march in honor of survivors and stopping at all the blue emergency lights on campus. What I also enjoyed about this program was looking at the Clothesline Project which is pictured above!

Crayon Canvas Art Making

This past Monday, a few of the RA's on campus held and event where students could make crayon art. To make crayon art you take a blank paint canvas, hot glue gun crayons onto the canvas and then melt the crayons using a hair blow dryer. I really enjoyed going to this event and here is a picture of someones crayon art work!

S.P.E.C. Decade/Let's Make A Deal Bingo Night

What I like about Saint Joseph College is that when there is a Bingo Night everyone likes to come out and participate! Last night, the bingo theme was "Decade/Let's Make A Deal Bingo"! This meant that people were encouraged to dress up like people from their favorite decade and if you won a prize you wouldn't know exactly what you could be winning because all the prizes were wrapped and you had to pick what you thought the better prize could be out of your two mysterious choices! Here is a picture of some of my friends who look dressed up for bingo!

Saint Joe's Girls Play at Ciara McDermott Game

Out of all the events I have gone to and been a part of this year at SJC, I'd have to say going to an event in my hometown really touched my heart. Through different connections, girls from our college played in a big benefit basketball game held at Newington High School in honor of Ciara McDermott, a police officer who died a few years ago. The game was really cool to watch and it was really cool to be able to go back to my high school with my friends who happen to be Newington High School Alumni like myself and go to Saint Joseph College as well. The girls who played in the game had a lot of fun and I hope we continue to have students play in this big game in future years! Here is a picture of the girls who played and their fans!

The Jay's Nest

There are a lot of things I like about Saint Joseph College but I'd have to say my favorite thing about this college is the Jay's Nest. If you are ever in a hurry and need a little snack the Jay's Nest is the place to go. The food here is delicious and there is a variety of different types of food to grab on the go. The Jay's Nest is located in McGovern lounge and is open during the week. Here is a picture of my friends who commute to SJC that spend their time in the Jay's Nest eating and talking.

SPEC Gotcha Game

Last week, the game Gotcha began. The game sponsored by S.P.E.C. is off of the classic childhood game called tag. There were twenty-eight girls that signed up last week and only a few are still in the running for the big prize. In McGovern lounge, you can see the list of girls who are left in the Gotcha game. It is coming down to the wire so the question is "Who will win Gotcha?" Hopefully we will find out soon!

This past week we had our last Resident Dean's Cup competition! This month's Dean's Cup was called Deck the halls. What we had to do for this Dean's Cup was decorate our floors with a holiday theme. Assumption 1st and 3rd's theme was off of a classic Christmas neighborhood, the inside of a house during Christmas and Christmas themed shopping area. The picture above is one of the many photos taken with Santa (RA Chrissie) and Judge Jess Miller (Resident Coordinator)!

SJC Araby

Of all the cool locations on campus this outdoor sculpture called the Araby by Carol Kreeger Davidson is the best! I've always looked at this sculpture and never knew that you could sit inside it! I had a ball just taking pictures of the sculpture and I was able to relax and feel peaceful sitting within it! Seriously, take time out of your busy schedules and go check it out! The sculpture can be found between Bruyette Athenaeum and Lynch Hall and also can be seen when driving on Asylum Avenue in West Hartford, Connecticut.

SJC Grotto

So I decided to explore Saint Joseph College's campus this week to find the coolest, relaxing and interesting locations. On my journey I discovered the Grotto which is behind the Little Red House and next to Lourdes Hall. The Grotto is a very peaceful area that includes a bench to sit on and a beautiful display of the Mother Mary Statue (pictured above). If you ever need some where to just sit and relax this is the perfect place for it.

SJC Tree Stump

It has been a really long time since I've lasted posted but there are many reasons to explain why I haven't been on. I am sorry to all my blog followers that I haven't been posting but this snow storm really impacted my blog's life. Anyways this picture is part of the remains of a tree at SJC and I figured it'd make sense to write both hurricane and snow storm on it due to the fact that both have happened in this 2011 school year. Weird right?
