A native of northern California, David McDonald has been on the faculty of St. John’s in Santa Fe since 2005, teaching in the undergraduate program as well as in the Graduate Institute Liberal Arts and Eastern Classics programs. He is an alumnus of the St. John’s College undergraduate program. Prior to joining the St. John's faculty, he worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory, primarily dealing with viral genetics data for public health projects. He has co-led study groups on comedy and on modernity, has lectured on Rabelais, on the thought of Emmanuel Levinas as it applies to the problem of technology, and has participated in panel discussions on cinema.
