How long is a typical tutorial?
One hour.
How many appointments can I make?
As many as you like. However, at busy times of the semester, we prefer that you not book too many appointments in advance.
Does my paper have to be finished before I meet with a writing tutor?
No. We work with students at all stages of the writing process. It is a good idea to bring assignment sheets, source material, your notes, and all of your drafts to the appointment. It is also suggested that you bring or have access to electronic copy of any work that you have started on the project.
Are CAE services free?
Yes.
What are the credentials of the CAE tutors?
Writing-across-the-curriculum tutors are professional tutors who have bachelor's and master's degrees in their area of speciality. Professional Nursing, Social Work, Counseling, and Science tutors hold a master's degree or are working towards one. In addition, undergraduate peer tutors provide content tutoring and run regular study tables. These tutors have a high credit-point average overall and particularly solid background in their tutoring content area and have been recommended by at least two professors.
How do I make an appointment?
Appointments are made by calling 860.231.5514 off-campus and ext. 5514 on-campus, by dropping in at the CAE reception office (Mercy Hall, room 242), or via e-mail cae@sjc.edu. E-mail and voice mail requests will be confirmed.
Can I e-mail or fax my paper?
