Education
The Master of Arts in Education degree consists of 30 credits for candidates with a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Requirements for the matriculation into the School of Education and the Graduate School and acceptance to the Master of Arts degree program.

Candidates for initial teacher licensure may apply to the Graduate School simultaneously with application for initial teacher licensure and may take up to six credits of teacher licensure coursework before submitting the MA Planned Program. Saint Joseph College candidates accepted for initial teacher licensure apply 15 credits of coursework from their official teacher licensure program toward the Master of Arts degree. In addition to the materials submitted to the School of Education for teacher licensure, candidates submit the following additional items to the Graduate School.

Requirements for exiting the Master of Arts degree program.
- Successful completion of core courses and related performance tasks with a grade of B or better: 6 credits-Educational Research and Educational Issues or Public School Law
- Successful completion of concentration area and related performance tasks with a grade of B or better: 9 credits. Note that courses used in a teacher license program may not be applied to the concentration area.
- Successful completion of electives with a grade of B of better: 15 credits unless noted. (These may be drawn from the teacher licensure planned program.)
- Successful completion of the comprehensive examination which may be taken at the conclusion of all coursework, by application, in February (October application) or July (April application) exam. To apply, please contact your education advisor. The comprehensive exam questions are designed to assess the student's ability to develop, substantiate, and defend educational decisions based on theory, research, and experience.
