Dietetic Internship

DEPARTMENT OF NUTRITION -SCHOOL OF HEALTH AND NATURAL SCIENCE
The Department of Nutrition at Saint Joseph College (SJC) offers a Dietetic Internship (DI) which is a graduate certificate program. This program is open to students with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition, who meet the American Dietetic Association (ADA) Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) requirements. Upon completion of the supervised practice experience in clinical nutrition, community nutrition and food service management graduates will receive a Verification of Completion and are eligible to take the registration examination to become a Registered Dietitian (R.D.). The Saint Joseph College Dietetic Internship program is currently granted continued accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
NOTE: Beginning January 2012 the American Dietetic Association (ADA) new name will be The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and the Commission on Dietetic Accreditation and Education (CADE) will be The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)

The Dietetic Internship consists of over 1000 hours of supervised practice experience in clinical, food service management and community settings. Beginning in 2013-14 the supervised practice experience will increase to 1200 hours as mandated by ACEND of AND.
The DI program is affiliated with many supervised practicum facilities throughout Connecticut. Dietetic interns may need be required to travel extended distances to sites. Practicum Sites (PDF: 6pp., 120K)
Dietetic interns receive nine graduate credits toward an online Masters of Nutrition at Saint Joseph College. Courses may be take in conjunction with the internship if interns choose a full graduate program.
Application Procedure
- Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System (DICAS) due Feb.15; $40 fee
- SJC supplemental application; $50 fee
- D&D Computer Matching; $50 fee
Scholarships are available through the American Dietetic Association. Prospective interns interested in financial aid may contact the Saint Joseph College financial office.
Dietetic Internship Program Requirements
- Bachelor degree in nutrition and dietetics or Masters in Nutrition
- Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Verification Statement
- Students should have maintained a minimum average of 3.0 in didactic courses
