Graduate Certificate in Leadership & Sustainable Communities
This certificate program is offered through the Global Women's Leadership Institute, which is a residential immersion experience for women from diverse cultures and backgrounds. The institute offered during the summer both in the US and abroad, provides participants the unique opportunity to learn from distinguished faculty in the classroom, leaders in the community, and through adventure experiences. Through the program, women will focus on current topics including economic sustainability, conflict resolution and global ethics while increasing their self awareness, building leadership competencies, and acquiring tools to apply their leadership capabilities in their communities.
During the summer of 2010, the inaugural program was held in partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. Fourteen women from the US and Saudi Arabia worked together to explore their individual leadership style, enhance their effectiveness in work and life, and apply what they learned in leadership projects. Some of the projects include: cross-cultural dialogue project between the US and Saudi Arabia, international mentorship program for women in health care, a joint women's handicraft project & civic engagement program preparing Arab women to participate in municipal elections.
