A lifelong resident of New Mexico (excluding a stint in Portland, Oregon) Adrian Wallen studied psychology and economics at the University of New Mexico, obtaining his bachelor’s degree in 2003. He also spent time at the University of Massachusetts and Amherst College as part of the National Student Exchange program. While on the UMass Crew team he won the New England Rowing Championships as part of a record-setting group that included several future Olympians.
Before joining the Admissions team at St. John’s College, Adrian worked in the non-profit sector for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Special Olympics of Oregon. His post-graduate work also includes the humbling experience of teaching first grade. Adrian’s favorite aspect of St. John’s is the school’s collaborative approach to learning. The atmosphere on campus is one of cooperation rather than competition, and everyone has the shared experience of going through the same program. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in liberal arts through the St. John’s College Graduate Institute.
Outside of the office, Adrian performs improv comedy at the Box Theater in Albuquerque. His other hobbies include cycling, hiking, and passionately rooting for the Lobos.
