Amanda Stevens grew up in Bel Air, Maryland, and is a graduate of Washington College, where she majored in drama and American studies, with a minor in history. As an undergraduate, she participated in a number of organizations ranging from student government to residential life, but it was her work as a tour guide that sparked her interest in higher education and admissions. After graduation, Amanda went on to Shippensburg University, where she earned master of science in organizational development and leadership, and worked as a graduate assistant in Admissions.
Amanda was the assistant director of Admissions at the University of Maryland Baltimore before joining St. John’s College. Initially she was attracted to the unconventional all-required program and the small campus size, but Amanda has grown to understand and embrace the depth and breadth of all the college has to offer its students.
Outside of the office, Amanda enjoys reading historical non-fiction, writing about herself in third-person, and spending time with her husband Greg, and their boxer, Olive. Together, they like exploring Annapolis, cooking, camping, and hosting Trivial Pursuit parties for friends and family.
Amanda encourages those interested in St. John’s College to come for a visit on either the Annapolis or Santa Fe campus. She believes this is truly the best way to understand the Program and to decide if St. John’s is the right choice.

"It is a peculiar sensation, this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one's self through the eyes of others, of measuring one's soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity."
