Originally from Sweden, Emelie Karlsson grew up listening to ABBA, eating meatballs and making weekend trips to IKEA. In search for something new and exciting, she enrolled in an Exchange Program and moved to Annapolis in 2007 where she spent a year and a half. After moving back home to pursue education in Business and Tourism Management, she returned to Annapolis in 2012. Here, she lives with her husband, Jon, and their dog Kramer just outside Annapolis.
Before joining the Admissions team at St. John’s College, Emelie worked as a Talent Acquisition Specialist in the Staffing Industry. She was attracted to St. John’s and the Admissions role because of the beautiful campus, the unique educational program and the opportunity to work at a place where you make a difference in peoples’ lives. Although very new to St. John’s, she has already fallen in love with the inclusive and warm culture and how engaged the students are in their own learning and intellectual development.
In her free time Emelie enjoys decorating her home with old and new pieces of furniture and décor, which has led to her husband establishing a “one-in-one-out” rule to keep their tiny house from overflowing with objects, and trying out new recipes. A perfect day is spent walking around downtown Annapolis or catching up with friends over a nice dinner and, if the weather allows, a competitive game of Kubb; a Swedish lawn game dating back to the Viking Age.
