Ryan Johnson is excited to be one of the newer members of the Admissions team in Annapolis. He knows that he is part of a community that believes in both the intrinsic and practical value of education, and he looks forward to meeting and equipping prospective students to make informed choices as they navigate the college search process.
Ryan has roots in Norfolk, Nebraska, a small farming town in the Midwest. After he graduated from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines as a combat rifleman. When his service in the Marine Corps ended, Ryan returned to the Midwest and attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, where he majored in philosophy and religion. While studying at Buena Vista, Ryan became aware of the unique program of study at St. John’s College, and upon graduating moved with his family to Annapolis to attend St. John’s College's Graduate Institute. When, after a stint managing a large bookstore and teaching at the local community college, Ryan was offered the opportunity to return to St. John’s in Admissions, he didn’t hesitate to come back.
Outside of work, Ryan enjoys reading on his hammock, spending time with his wife, Melissa, and their four children—Naomi, Sophie, Eli, and Ava.

"It is a peculiar sensation, this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one's self through the eyes of others, of measuring one's soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity."
