Raymie Wayne ’94: A Lifelong Learner

Raymie WayneMore than ten years ago, Raymie Wayne '94 was a Social Work student at Saint Joseph College. Today, she is a Social Work professor. In the decade between she earned a master's degree in Social Work from Fordham University and a juris doctorate from the University of Connecticut School of Law - graduating first in her class. She is currently working towards her doctoral degree in Social Welfare at the University of Albany. As a teacher, a social worker, and a researcher, Professor Wayne is committed to leading others towards growth and change.

"Throughout my education at Saint Joseph College, I was aware of the interplay between content and process that is an essential part of professional Social Work education. While I was learning about principles of empowerment, my professors were empowering me to become a change agent and a lifelong learner. To me, Saint Joseph College means empowerment. We create a nurturing environment where students can take risks and discover who they are, or perhaps more importantly, who they can become. While in this nurturing environment, students learn to take constructive feedback and grow from it. They learn to be lifelong learners and they gain the skills to navigate less nurturing environments. This was my experience over a decade ago, and this is what Saint Joseph College means to me today."
