Emma, who grew up in Windsor and attended Windsor High School, was raised in a feminist household — a reason she cites for choosing Saint Joseph College, “My dad, especially, encouraged me to speak my mind,” Emma said. In addition to the fact that she saw SJC as offering an environment that empowers women, she felt it would challenge her academically. And so it has. “My school work keeps me busy and out of trouble,” she said
As a dual major Emma has plenty to focus on: “I love reading, writing and learning about the past.” Other activities Emma enjoys include hanging out with friends, listening to music, singing, acting and swimming. Emma is a member of The Queenes Companye and the SJC History Club. One of her favorite campus experiences so far has been performing with The Queenes Companye acting troupe.
“My favorite classes have been the American History courses,” she said. “Professor Cote is really engaging, easy to understand, approachable, and encouraging. She builds off of what we already know and she always follows her syllabus.”
Emma is ambitious about her future. She plans to go to graduate school and get a Ph.D. in either History or English and to become a college professor. Her ultimate dream is to be a professional novelist. Regardless of what she will do for a living, Emma is committed to living her life as a creative thinker.
