Upon completion of her doctoral degree in Education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction (specifically computer technology), Dr. Judy Arzt came to Saint Joseph College with fresh ideas. In addition to pioneering a writing-across-the-curriculum and content tutorial program, she launched the College's renowned writing portfolio program in 1989. Over the years, the program garnered several awards including: the Writing Program Certificate of Excellence from the National Council of Teachers of English; a listing in a National Gallery of Model Assessments; and three commendations from the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Most recently, Dr. Arzt initiated a writing associates program, linking writing experts with specific courses. As a result of the collaboration, students receive customized assistance with writing course papers and professors report significant gains in student writing abilities. In 2001, Dr. Arzt began the College's online writing tutorial program, establishing the College as one of the first in the region to offer such a service. The program now offers 3,000 hours of annual assistance and has serviced more than 2,000 students.

Having studied at large state universities, Dr. Arzt continues to be impressed by the beauty of the Saint Joseph College campus, the individualized attention students receive, and the small class sizes. She identifies with the College's mission of providing a nurturing environment for all students to succeed in achieving a high-quality, rigorous education. Dr. Arzt teaches in a variety of departments but particularly enjoys her Computers in the Classroom course, in which she helps students plan for technology infusion at the K-12 level, influencing generations to come.
