One of Dr. Terry Bosworth's main objectives is to have her students become self-directed learners so that beyond the parameters of their college education, they continue to be participants in the learning process. A student in one of Dr. Bosworth's classes can expect to learn these lifelong tools, because knowledge-based education by itself is not enough.

"My goal is to create an environment where they leave the room with more questions than answers, but armed with the necessary skills to generate solutions to problems" Dr. Bosworth says. In her view, a curious mind combined and good work habits are important qualities for nurses to have, particularly since the healthcare environment is changing constantly. Dr. Bosworth contends, "It's important to understand the changes and not remain stagnant."

Dr. Bosworth notes that nursing often brings with it the specter of dealing with human tragedy, but when you look right at situations, rather then hiding from them, "you can see what you can do to make things better. You can make a difference." Dr. Bosworth believes that an advantage of a nursing education at Saint Joseph College is found in the many programs and activities available to help students achieve a balance in their life, so they can stay fresh, positive and committed to their goals.
