Dr. Marilyn Denny is a nationally recognized expert and published author in the areas of elder law and the social policy issues affecting the elderly. She says that she was drawn to Sociology because the study of it "gave me the best leverage in terms of working for a better society."

Dr. Denny's dedication to societal changes manifests itself in the classroom where she employs a feminist modality. She says, "I transfer the center of learning and authority from me to the students as the semester progresses. Everyone participates. It's an egalitarian model as opposed to a hierarchical model."

Among her areas of specialty are racial and ethnic groups, inequality, the sociology of women, and law and society. Her advice to students is, "Don't look for pat answers to tough questions. Develop your own perspective on the world."
