It's no accident that Dr. Mary-Jane Eisen specializes in adult learning and continuing education. That was the path she took when she left her first career as a human resources executive. As a graduate student at Saint Joseph College and now as a faculty member, Dr. Eisen says, she is "committed to maintaining its reputation for excellence in higher education and student-centered teaching."

She strongly believes in the importance of lifelong learning, a passion she hopes her student will develop. Her teaching philosophy reflects her real world experience. Dr. Eisen said she "emphasizes students' active engagement in and out of the classroom, the development of critical thinking skills, and the application of theory to real life."

As a teacher, she can draw from her consulting experience with a variety of non-profit groups in the Hartford area. Dr. Eisen has expertise in these areas: training, gender equity, elder services and impact assessment, which evaluates the future effect of various actions. She has worked with Leadership Greater Hartford, the Connecticut Permanent Commission on the Status of Women, United Way of Connecticut, the Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund, and Capital Community College.
