Dr. Richard Halstead is both fascinated by and dedicated to helping students change and grow for their own benefit. He explains, "I have an affinity toward Psychology. I assess the individual learning needs of each student in the class and establish various learning modalities that will take place in the class."  Interactivity is important for each student, he feels, as the more involved learners are, the more responsible they become for their own education.

Dr. Halstead specializes in the areas of Counseling Ethics, Group Work, Skills Training and Core Issues Assessment. He is the recipient of The Reverend John J. Stack Excellence in Teaching Award and he is heavily involved in his department's active learning community, a program in which the faculty provides support to students.

"Saint Joseph College is one of the nicest institutions I have ever been in," Dr. Halstead says. "People invest themselves in being in a great place. They care about one another. The faculty also is superb at keeping up with their scholarship, so they are up-to-date with their subject matter." He advises students to: "Do whatever you can do to make your time at the College the most special experience you can. Don't rush through it. Pieces of it should be lifelong memories."
