After many years working in the public accounting field, Marie G. Kulesza, a certified public accountant, started an academic career to fulfill her love for teaching. Today, as an Assistant Professor of Business Administration, her experience as an auditor of municipalities, not-for-profit organizations and privately held corporations, enhance her lectures in auditing and financial accounting.
Accounting requires constant updating to keep up with emerging issues in the profession, and students need to be provided with links to the “real world” whenever possible. Kulesza combines both past experience and current research in accounting to improve students’ learning experience and the development of their critical thinking skills to prepare them as they enter the professional world. And she wants students to see accounting in a better light. Kulesza stresses that by learning accounting, you have a better understanding of the business world. "I know that many assume accounting is boring, but my enthusiasm for the subject is contagious," she said.
For Kulesza, one of the best parts of teaching at Saint Joseph College is the strong sense of community. “Students and faculty are encouraged to participate in many activities outside of the classroom that enhance the college experience for the students. I enjoy being part of that process."
