In the midst of a vibrant career in hospital pharmacy, Dr. Maria Summa was inspired to use her knowledge and expertise toward the development of tomorrow’s pharmacists. “Today's pharmacy educators are charged with developing stewards for excellence in patient care,” she said. “It is my philosophy that a ‘real-life’ approach to pharmacy education is the foundation for future pharmacists' success within this dynamic profession.”

Drawing on her own experience in ambulatory care pharmacy, residency program coordination, and hospital pharmacy leadership, Dr. Summa sees the College’s School of Pharmacy as a “creative, active-learning pharmacy educational model.”

Looking to guide students as they pursue pharmacy careers, she hopes to show them the many options available and to instill a standard of excellence: “The journey towards excellence is life-long for students and educators alike. Educators who aim higher, inspire others, and nurture their own life-long learning skills will promote this profession and position future practitioners for sustained contributions and professional success.”
