Drawn to Saint Joseph College as a result of her background in moral development, Dr. Elizabeth Vozzola feels at home at an institution that is committed to high ethical standards. She comments, "I subscribe to Vygotsky's theory that there is a place where a learner is at now and a place where she can get to with support." Dr. Vozzola attempts to teach in ways that offer that support. As an applied developmentalist, her teaching methodology and her scholarship in moral development for the helping professions allow her to apply her theories in practical ways.
Dr. Vozzola remembers, "I was lucky to have a sixth grade teacher who had an interdisciplinary style. Class was transformative and this teacher opened doors. I want to return the favor." Dr. Vozzola feels most proud of the productive and contributory lives so many of the Saint Joseph College graduates go on to live. She adds: "I feel proud when I see them walk across the stage at graduation and then go off into the world."
