International Students
Candidates for International Admission may apply directly by submitting the appropriate Saint Joseph College application, along with the International Student Supplement, or by applying through ELS University Admissions Services using the ELS University Partner Application. Materials should be completed for the fall semester by April 1st and for the spring semester by September 1st. An applicant's file will be reviewed by the Committee on Admissions when the following items have been submitted to the Office of Admissions:
- A completed application with a non-refundable fee of $50.00 USD (check or money order payable to Saint Joseph College) to the Office of Admissions; this fee is waived if the application is completed online.
- Copies of diplomas and/or certificates, and supporting mark sheets leading to the accompanying diploma or certification, and/or all official transcripts. The record must be translated and evaluated by a credit evaluation agency unless completed in the U.S. Recommended agencies include: World Educational Services (WES), www.wes.org; Center for Educational Documentation (CED), www.cedevaluations.com; Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), www.ece.org.
- Official score of 79 or higher on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 6.0 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS, Academic version) if English is not the applicant’s first and primary language. In lieu of TOEFL or IELTS exam scores, applicants may also be considered for conditional admissions pending completion of English Level 112 at one of ELS's 50+ English Language Centers in the United States.
- Two letters of recommendation, typically from current teachers or other non-family members in official capacities. Letters must be in English or the original provided with a translated version.
- A personal statement of 1 to 2 pages. The personal statement must be in English.
- Any additional, required information for the program the applicant is considering (additional documents and/or an interview if requested by the Committee on Admissions).
Visa Information
Saint Joseph College is permitted by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service to admit non-immigrant students. Upon admission to a degree program, the student is issued an I-20 A/B, which is used to pursue an F-1 student visa through the American Embassy or Consulate in the student's home country. This must be current at all times. Before an immigration form is issued, the following must be submitted to the College:
- A copy of the student's passport and current visa (if applicable).
- Declaration and certification of finances form with supporting documentation, certified by a bank official.
- I-20 request form, provided by Saint Joseph College.
- Any documentation required for additional, dependent visas.
Notification
- Once the applicant has completed the application process, she/he will be notified of the admissions decision on a rolling basis.
- The applicant will learn of the Committee's decision by a letter from the Director of Admissions. To indicate acceptance of the offer of admission, the applicant must complete the appropriate form and submit a non-refundable deposit of $250.00 USD. This deposit will be credited toward the first semester bill.
- Please note that I-20 forms are issued to students following acceptance for full-time study and verification of sufficient funding.
- International students will not qualify for an F-1 student visa if they are pursuing an online program.
