Saint Joseph College Basketball Team

Coaching Staff

Kim Martin, Coach, BasketballHead basketball coach Kim Martin enters her fifth season at the helm for the Blue Jays.

In her first season, 2005-06, Martin guided SJC to its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament semifinal appearance in eight seasons. That season, Martin also directed Edna Caamano to First-Team All-Conference accolades; Caamano was the first Blue Jay since the 1997-98 season to be named to the GNAC First-Team. In the 2007-2008 season, first-year guard Illaria Schiano was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention as she led the team with just over 13.8 points per game.

Martin emphasizes a team philosophy as her players are expected to give everything they can, on and off the court, for their teammates. In order to be successful under Martin's program, every player must give everything of one's self for the team, never take a possession off, be mentally tough, and enjoy playing the game.

Martin was a standout guard at Division I Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. where she graduated magna cum laude from the honors program with her Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business Law in 2000.

A three-year starter for the Owls, Martin was a co-captain her junior and senior seasons while leading the squad in the classroom; she was named to the Atlantic-10 and Big-Five All-Academic teams her junior and senior years. Martin was also granted the Owl Club Award and led the team in field goal percentage (43.2) and free-throw percentage (75.4) during the 1998-99 season. Martin's numbers during the 1998-99 season remain among the top-ten all-time for the Owls. Martin was also a part of the Owls team that still holds the school-record for steals in a game as they came away with 27 take-aways against Xavier in 1998.

In addition to her coaching duties with the Blue Jays, Martin coordinates and instructs at various camps and clinics throughout the state of Connecticut and is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Martin is also the Officials and Transportation Coordinator for the Blue Jays athletic department as well as a Physical Education Instructor for the college.

A native of Cheshire, Conn., Martin currently resides in New Haven.
