Hummel named to All-GNAC team
Saint Joseph College freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) was named All-GNAC Third Team at pitcher and the utility position.
On the mound, Hummel had a 14-7 record with a 2.16 ERA. She struck out 120 batters and walked 30 in 123 innings. Improving as the season went on, she had a 1.55 ERA in 77 innings in the month of April.
Hummell batted .377 with 49 hits, 32 runs scored, 21 RBI, 60 total bases, a .417 on base percentage and a .462 slugging percentage, all of which led the team. She struck out just three times in 140 plate appearances.
Showing her versatility, Hummel played all three outfield positions and first base when not pitching and made just one error in 108 total chances.
Saint Joseph College finished 24-18 overall and finished in sixth place of 13 GNAC teams in the regular season. The Blue Jays defeated Mount Ida in the first round of the GNAC tournament before being eliminated with two losses.
Solid season ends
NASHUA, N.H., April 24, 2010 -- Saint Joseph College had its season ended Saturday with its second loss in the GNAC Tournament. The Blue Jays were beaten by Simmons, 10-1 in five innings.
Saint Joseph was limited to four hits and trailed 6-0 when it scored its lone run in the third inning. Freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) singled home Nicole Williams (Middletown, CT), who had also singled. The only other hits for Saint Joseph had come when Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) singled and Heather Tworzydlo (Dayville, CT) doubled with two out in the second.
Saint Joseph finished 24-18 overall.
Saint Joseph drops tough 1-0 decision to Emerson
STANDISH, ME, April 23, 2010 -- Emerson College scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Saint Joseph College 1-0 Friday in the GNAC Tournament at Ward Park.
The Blue Jays remain alive in the double-elimination tournament. They will play at noon Saturday at Rivier in Nashua N.H. against the loser of the Norwich-Rivier game, taking place late Friday. A victory there for Saint Joseph would advance it to a 2 p.m. game, while a loss would end the Jays' tournament run.
Saint Joseph had several chances to score, despite getting just three hits. The Blue Jays had runners at first and second in the first inning after two errors and they strung together two hits in the third -- a double by Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) and a single by April Campanella (Berlin, CT), but stranded runners both times.
Saint Joseph had a runner thrown out at the plate in the top of the eighth and Emerson's Nikki Battaglia (Freehold, NJ) singled home Jordan Newell (Palm City, FL) from third with one out in the bottom half to end the game.
Kristin Parente (Burlington, CT) pitched well for the Jays, keeping the Lions' offense off the board through seven innings. She scattered six hits and struck out three.
Blue Jays beat Mount Ida; advance in GNAC Tournament
WEST HARTFORD, CONN, April 22, 2010 -- Freshman pitcher Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) struck out 12 and drove home two runs as Saint Joseph College defeated Mount Ida, 4-2 Wednesday in a first-round GNAC playoff game at Saint Joseph.
Saint Joseph advanced to the six-team double elimination tournament April 23-25 at Saint Joseph's in Standish, Maine and Rivier in Nashua, N.H. Saint Joseph, the No. 6 seed, improved to 24-16 overall; No. 7 Mount Ida finished 17-19.
Mount Ida scored in the top of the first. Freshman Tiffany Hamman (Newtown, MA) singled, was bunted to second, advanced to third on a single by Cortney Rebello (N. Dartmouth, MA) and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Erica Belliveau (Tewksbury, MA).
Saint Joseph took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. Freshman Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, CT) walked and scored when a bunt by Nicole Williams (Middletown, CT) was thrown into right field. Williams reached third and scored on a ground out by Hummel.
Saint Joseph pushed its lead to 4-2 in the third. Junior Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) singled home Valerio and Williams scored again on Hummel's fielder's choice.
Hummel allowed six hits and no walks for her 14th victory of the season. Meeker allowed four hits and a walk and struck out five.
"Emily and Ashley Ryan did a fantastic job at pitcher and catcher," Saint Joseph coach Jim McKinnon said. "And Stephanie and Nikki contributed a lot with their aggressive baserunning."
Saint Joseph splits at Mt. Ida; awaits GNAC pairings
NEWTON, MASS., April 18, 2010 -- The Saint Joseph College softball team concluded its regular season by splitting a doubleheader at Mount Ida, Sunday. Saint Joseph won the first game, 4-2 before Mount Ida took the second, 2-1.
Saint Joseph College finished 23-16 overall in the regular season, including 14-10 in the GNAC. The Blue Jays will now wait for other league teams to finish their schedules before knowing their seeding for the GNAC tournament, which begins Wednesday, April 21. Kristin Parente (Burlington, CT) allowed one earned run in Game 1 to earn her eighth victory of the season. Saint Joseph erased a 1-0 deficit when Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) doubled to lead off the second and scored on a single from Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT). The Blue Jays took the lead for good in the third when Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, CT) singled, stole second and scored on an error. Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) added an RBI-single in the fourth and Durant had a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the final run.
Saint Joseph scored its lone run in Game 2 when Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) led off the fourth inning with a single and eventually scored on a two-out single by April Campanella (Berlin, CT).
Blue Jays get two wins on Senior Day
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., April 17, 2010 -- Freshman Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) hit an eighth-inning sacrifice fly to score freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) with the winning run in the first game and Hummel earned two more victories on the mound as Saint Joseph swept Simmons in a GNAC doubleheader Saturday at Saint Joseph College.
Saint Joseph won by scores of 5-4 and 7-2.
It was the final regular-season home game for Saint Joseph College seniors Heather Tworzydlo (Dayville, CT) and Jackie Peck (Montville, CT). Both players had hits in both games. Tworzydlo went a combined 3-for-7 with four RBI and Peck was 2-for-5 with a double and three runs scored.
Saint Joseph is 22-15 overall and 13-9 in GNAC play; Simmons is 18-9, 13-7.
The Blue Jays took a 4-1 lead in the third inning of Game 1 with a three-run rally. Durant and Tworzydlo had consecutive, one-out, RBI-singles and sophomore Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) had a sacrifice fly.
Simmons narrowed the gap to 4-3 and had two out in the seventh inning, but the Sharks tied the score. Junior shortstop Annie Thompson (Pacific Palisades, CA) hit a long triple and sophomore first baseman Leah Derderian (Boylston, MA) singled to right to even the score at 4. That set the stage for the dramatic eighth, when Hummel tagged from third and scored on Durant's fly ball.
In Game 2, Tworzydlo had an RBI-single in the first and a two-run single in the third and the Blue Jays never trailed. Hummel struck out nine in 10 innings and now has 13 wins on the season.
Saint Joseph plays at Mount Ida, Sun. April 18 to conclude the regular season. The Blue Jays will then play in the GNAC Tournament, which begins Wednesday, at a time and site to be determined.
Blue Jays clinch GNAC berth with sweep
WEST HARTFORD, CONN., April 16, 2010 -- Junior April Campanella (Berlin, CT) doubled home the winning
run with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning in a dramatic Game 1 victory and Saint Joseph College swept Emmanuel Friday in a GNAC doubleheader at Saint Joseph. The Blue Jays won the opener 2-1 and, behind the four-hitter of junior Kristin Parente (Burlington, CT), completed the sweep with a 4-0 win.
Saint Joseph clinched a berth in the eight-team GNAC tournament after being picked to finish out of playoffs in the annual pre-season coaches poll.
“We’re very glad to be in this position,” Saint Joseph coach Jim McKinnon said. “If we play good defense and get good pitching, we’re in every game. And our team keeps battling.”
Saint Joseph battled all the way in the first game, trailing 1-0 into the bottom of the seventh. Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) hit a one-out double and pinch-runner Olivia Tisdell (Worcester, MA) went to third when Kelly Balanca (West Haven, CT) reached on an error. Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) grounded out to first with Tisdell racing home to tie the score and Saige Dupont (Brooklyn, CT), running for Balanca, advanced to second. Campanella then blasted a double to left center to easily score Dupont and end the game.
Emmanuel scored in the sixth on a triple by Samantha Luther (Carlisle, MA) and a sacrifice fly from Chelsey Guselli (Methuen, MA).
Emily Hummell (Hebron, CT) allowed three hits, no walks and struck out four for her 11th victory of the season. In the second game, Parente allowed four hits, no walks and struck out six for her second shutout of the year.
Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI for Saint Joseph. Hummel went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Saint Joseph hosts Simmons in a noon doubleheader, Sat. April 17.
Saint Joseph wins one
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass., April 13, 2010 -- Freshman Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, CT) went a combined 3-for-7 with four RBI as the Saint Joseph College softball team split a GNAC doubleheader Tuesday at Pine Manor.
Pine Manor (2-23 overall, 2-14 GNAC) won the first game 4-3 before Saint Joseph (18-15, 9-9) won the second game, 4-2.
Saint Joseph trailed 3-0 in the fourth inning of Game 1, when freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) singled and eventually scored on a bunt by junior April Campanella (Berlin, CT). Pine Manor led 4-1 when Valerio hit a two-run double in the seventh inning, but the Blue Jays left the bases loaded.
Junior Kristin Parente (Burlington, CT) pitched four innings for the Game 2 victory and Hummel went three scoreless innings for a save. Hummel had an RBI-single in the first inning and Valerio a two-run single in the second for the Blue Jays.
Saint Joseph next plays Friday April 16 when it hosts Emmanuel in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
Hummel earns GNAC honor
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., April 13, 2010 -- Saint Joseph College freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) was named GNAC Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 10, it was announced by the league today.
Hummel had a 2-1 record last week with a 0.00 ERA. She allowed three unearned runs in five games, three of which were starts and complete games. In 22 1/3 innings, Hummel allowed 16 hits, five walks and struck out 13.
She also batted .417 (10-for-24) for the week with 10 runs scored and six RBI.
For the season, Hummel has a 10-4 pitching record with a 2.00 ERA. Offensively, she leads the team with 25 runs scored and is second in batting average (.347) and RBI (16). Defensively, she has handled 54 chances between the mound and outfield without an error.
Saint Joseph swept in Standish
STANDISH, Maine, April 11, 2010 -- Saint Joseph's of Maine remained unbeaten in GNAC play with a sweep Sunday of visiting Saint Joseph College. The Monks topped the Blue Jays by scores of 8-3 and 3-1.
Saint Joseph College dropped to 17-14 overall and 8-8 in GNAC play. Saint Joseph's is 23-5, 16-0.
The Monks scored five runs on six second-inning hits to lead 5-0 and the Blue Jays were unable to dig out from behind. Saint Joseph scored three fourth-inning runs on an RBI-single from sophomore Nicole Williams (Middletown, CT) and a two-run single from junior Susie Waters (Wrentham, Mass.). Waters finished 3-for-4 including a double.
The Blue Jays were held to three hits in the second game, but pushed across a fourth-inning run. Senior Jackie Peck (Montville, CT) singled, freshman Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) doubled and Peck scored on a grounder by junior April Campanella (Berlin, CT).
Saint Joseph College is at Pine Manor Tuesday, April 13 for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader and next plays home Friday, April 16 for two against Emmanuel, beginning at 3 p.m.
Blue Jays goes 1-1 against Lasell
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., April 10, 2010 -- Freshman pitcher Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) allowed no earned runs in two complete games Saturday as the Blue Jays split a GNAC doubleheader against Lasell at Saint Joseph College.
Lasell won the opener, 2-1 before Saint Joseph took the late game, 4-1. Saint Joseph is now 17-12 overall and 8-6 in GNAC play. Lasell is 10-16-1, 6-6.
Lasell scored its two runs in the third inning of the first game without a base hit. The Lasers turned a walk, catcher's interference, an error and a sacrifice fly from junior Ashley Laramie (Lynn, MA) into the only two runs they would need. The game ended when Lasell center fielder Tricia Culver (Northampton, MA) made an outstanding running catch and doubled the potential tying run off second base. Saint Joseph scored in the sixth inning when senior Jackie Peck (Montville, CT) hit a sacrifice fly to score freshman Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, CT).
Hummell held Lasell to four hits in each game. She earned her 10th victory of the season in Game 2 and lowered her team-leading ERA to 2.00. The Blue Jays scored their four runs in the second inning. Hummel led off with a walk, advanced to second base on a single by Peck and third on ground out. Hummel then raced home, barely beating a close play at the plate on an an infield grounder by senior Heather Tworzydlo (Dayville, CT). Sophomore catcher Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) then singled home Peck to make the score 2-0 and Saint Joseph added two more runs on a Lasell error.
Saint Joseph plays at Saint Joseph's of Maine Sunday April 11 in a noon doubleheader. The Blue Jays next home doubleheader is Friday April 16 against Emmanuel at 3 p.m.
Softballers split with Mitchell
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., April 7, 2010 -- Saint Joseph took advantage of seven Mitchell errors to win 11-7 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at Saint Joseph. Mitchell came back to win the late game, 10-1 in five innings.
Saint Joseph is 16-11 overall and Mitchell is 8-6.
Saint Joseph rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the first game with three runs of its own in the bottom of the second and third innings to lead 6-3. Sophomore catcher Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) had a two-run single in each rally. Also for Saint Joseph, senior Jackie Peck (Montville, CT) and freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) each finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, with Hummel scoring three runs and Peck two. For Mitchell, sophomore shortstop Nikki Hoxie (Winsted, CT) went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Mitchell sophomore pitcher Marissa Thomas (New London, CT) allowed two singles, no walks and struck out four in five innings to earn the victory in Game 2 and senior catcher Sara Krolikowski (Bristol, CT) went 4-for-4 with three RBI.
Saint Joseph hosts Lasell Saturday in a GNAC doubleheader at noon.
Jays get two in Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I., April 6, 2010 -- Saint Joseph College scored two ninth-inning runs in the opener and breezed in the second game as the Blue Jays won two at Johnson & Wales, 8-6, 9-0 Tuesday.
Saint Joseph is now 15-10 overall and 7-5 in GNAC play. The Blue Jays have also won all three extra-inning games they've played this season. Johnson & Wales is 3-21, 3-11.
In game one, Saint Joseph freshman Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, CT) singled home senior Heather Tworzydlo (Dayville, CT) with the go-ahead run in the ninth inning to break a 7-all tie. Freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) went 3-for-5 for the Blue Jays and freshman Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Hummel then earned her first collegiate complete game shutout in game two. She allowed five hits in five innings to pick up her ninth win of the season. Sophomore catcher Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Saint Joseph hosts Mitchell Wed., April 7 at 3 p.m.
Blue Jays get split in high-scoring day
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., April 5, 2010 -- Sophomore Erin Stocking (Meriden, CT) had three hits and three RBI in the second game as Saint Joseph defeated Daniel Webster 13-9 to salvage a split of a doubleheader Monday at Saint Joseph. Daniel Webster won the first game, 10-8.
Saint Joseph is 13-10 overall and Daniel Webster is 4-7.
In all, Daniel Webster had 28 hits and Saint Joseph 24. The Blue Jays led early in the first game, but could not recover from allowing six, sixth-inning runs and falling behind 8-4.
Saint Joseph fell behind three times in the first three innings of the second game, but battled back each time, tying the score at 2 after one inning, at 3 after two innings and leading for good at 6-5 after three. A third-inning single by sophomore Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) scored Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) to break a 5-5 tie and cap a three-run rally. The Blue Jays opened up some breathing room with a six-run fourth inning. Freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) had a two-run single and senior Heather Tworzydlo (Dayville, CT) a two-run double in the rally.
Hummel, junior Susie Waters (Wrentham, MA) and junior Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) each finished the day with four hits for Saint Joseph, with Hummel also scoring four runs apiece. Bush pitched five innings for her first victory of the season.
Saint Joseph plays two at Johnson & Wales Tuesday, April 6 at 3 p.m. and next plays home Wednesday against Mitchell in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
Saint Joseph swept at Rivier
NASHUA, N.H., April 3, 2010 -- The Saint Joseph College eight-game winning streak came to an end Saturday as the Blue Jays were swept, 1-0, 8-0 in a GNAC doubleheader at Norwich. the second game was shortened to five innings.
Junior pitcher Kristin Parente (Burlington, CT) allowed five singles, no walks and one unearned run in the opener, but the Blue Jays managed just one hit. Freshman Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, CT) singled with one out in the first, stole second and went to third on an error. But she was stranded there and Rivier pitcher Monica White set down the last 19 batters in a row and finished with 15 strikeouts.
Saint Joseph junior Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) had two hits in the late game, which left her team-leading batting average at .412. Rivier outhit Saint Joseph 10-5 and had four-run innings in the first and fourth.
Saint Joseph is 12-9 overall and 5-5 in the GNAC. Rivier is 16-1 and 10-0 in the conference.
Saint Joseph hosts Daniel Webster Monday, April 5 in a non-conference doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.
Jays keep winning with two late rallies
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass., April 1, 2010 -- Saint Joseph College scored all its runs in its final at bats of both games at the Blue Jays swept Newbury, 3-2 and 2-1 (eight innings), Thursday in a doubleheader at Pine Manor College.
Saint Joseph has won eight games in a row and has an overall record of 12-7. Newbury College fell to 4-8.
The Blue Jays trailed 2-0 entering the seventh inning of Game 1 and rallied for three runs. Sophomore Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) and junior Susie Waters (Wrentham, Mass.) drew walks and freshman Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, CT) tripled down the right field line with one out to tie the score at 2. Junior Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) then had a sacrifice fly to right to score Valerio with the lead run. Junior pitcher Kristin Parente (Burlington, CT) went the distance for her fourth victory of the season.
Freshman pitcher Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) had a dominant outing in Game 2. She allowed three hits, two walks, no earned runs and struck out 13 in eight innings to improve her record to 8-2 and lower her season ERA to 2.71.
The teams were scoreless through seven innings and Saint Joseph scored its two runs in the eighth inning on a play in which two Newbury errors were made.
"They were two grind-it-out victories and I'm very happy with the way we got wins in the late innings," Saint Joseph coach Jim McKinnon said. "Getting good defense and pitching is carrying us."
Saint Joseph plays two at Rivier Saturday at 1 p.m. and next plays home Monday, April 5 against Daniel Webster in a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
Win streak reaches six with sweep of Albertus
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., March 28, 2010 -- Saint Joseph College had 19 hits from 11 different players and received 10 shutout innings from three pitchers as the Blue Jays defeated Albertus Magnus, 11-0 and 8-0 Sunday in a GNAC doubleheader at Saint Joseph College.
Both games were shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. Saint Joseph, which has won six games in a row, improved to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in the GNAC. Albertus is 0-10 and 0-8 in the conference.
Junior Kristin Parente (Burlington, CT) allowed two hits and one walk while striking out five in the first game. Freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) struck out six in three hitless innings and junior Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) struck out four in two innings in the late game.
Hummel led the offense with a combined 4-for-6 effort with three runs scored. Junior April Campanella (Berlin, CT) went 3-for-3 in the opener and senior Heather Tworzydlo (Dayville, CT) went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the second game.

Hummel leaves mark on doubleheader sweep of Norwich
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., March 26, 2010 -- Freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) earned two pitching victories and had the game-winning hit in both games as Saint Joseph College (8-7, 3-3 GNAC) swept Norwich (1-9, 0-2) in a league doubleheader, 7-6 in eight innings and 4-3 Friday at Saint Joseph College.
Hummel pitched 1.2 scoreless relief innings in the first game and went the distance in game two. Her bloop single over the pitchers’ mound with two out in the bottom of the eighth scored freshman Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, CT) with the winning run in game one. In the sixth inning of game two, her single through the left side scored junior Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) to cap a two-run rally and break a 3-3 tie.
“Emily was fantastic today,” Saint Joseph coach Jim McKinnon said. “It’s tough to come in like she did in the first game with runners on base and pitch out of a jam. And two game-winning hits, you can’t get any better that.”
Saint Joseph rallied from behind in both games. Norwich led 3-0 and 5-2 in the first game before Saint Joseph scored four times in the sixth inning. Bush had a two-run double in the rally and Hummel had an RBI-single which staked Saint Joseph to a 6-5 lead. Norwich tied the score in the top of the seventh, which set the stage for Hummel's walk off hit in the eighth.
Norwich led 3-0 after three innings of the second game, but the Blue Jays scored two runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth. In the decisive fifth, Valerio singled to center and Bush doubled to left to score Valerio and tie the score, 3-3. Hummel then grounded her final big hit of the day into short left field to plate Bush with the go-ahead run.
Bush finished the day with three hits and four RBI and Hummel was 4-for-8 with three RBI. On the mound, Hummel allowed three runs (one earned) in 8.2 innings, with 12 strikeouts and one walk to improve her record to 6-2.
Saint Joseph is at Pine Manor Saturday March 27 for an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
Saint Joseph sweeps Bay Path
LONGMEADOW, Mass., March 24, 2010 -- Saint Joseph College banged out 22 hits and got two solid pitching performances in sweeping a doubleheader at Bay Path, 4-2, 13-2.
In game one, the team were tied 2-2 and Saint Joseph scored two decisive sixth-inning runs. Freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) doubled to start the rally and senior Jackie Peck (Montville, CT) singled to put runners at first and third. Freshman Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) singled to score Hummel with the lead run and Peck came home on a ground out by junior April Campanella (Berlin, CT).

Jays Come North
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., March 21, 2010 -- Saint College won one of its four games this weekend to begin the northern part of the schedule.
Saturday, Saint Joseph rebounded from an opening 9-4 defeat at Suffolk to win the second game of a doubleheader in Boston, 5-3. Freshman Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, CT) had two hits and two RBI to lead the Jays offense in the victory and freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) struck out seven and walked none to get the win. Sophomore catcher Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) had three hits in the first game for Saint Joseph.
Sunday, the Blue Jays were swept by 2009 GNAC champion Emerson, 8-0 in five innings and 6-2 in the first home games of the season. Saint Joseph did well to compete with Emerson, which had scored 42 runs in a doubleheader the day before. Senior Jackie Peck (Montville, CT) and freshman Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) each had two of the Jays nine hits on the day.
Saint Joseph Wins Three Florida Games
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., March 19, 2010 -- The Saint Joseph College softball team completed its trip to Orlando, Fla. with a record of 3-4 in official games.
The Blue Jays began with a 16-9 win over Mitchell, rallying from a 7-4 deficit after one inning. Saint Joseph sophomore Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT) had four hits and junior April Campanella (Berlin, CT) had three hits, three runs scored and two RBI.
Saint Joseph eventually split their two games with Mitchell and two with the University of New England. The Blue Jays defeated Daniel Webster in a single contest and were swept by Framingham State.
Saint Joseph junior Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) batted a team-high .520 (13-for-25) on the trip and senior Jackie Peck (Montville, CT) batted .429 with a team-high seven RBI. Freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) batted .412 with a team-leading seven runs scored and earned victories in her first two collegiate pitching outings.
