This is the first collection of essays about what the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) identifies as the phenomenon of “seeing aspects,”  by which something that does not change in its concrete appearance is suddenly seen differently by us. The phenomenon raises questions about perception, knowledge, and the human mind, and offers clues to understanding Wittgenstein’s remarks on the nature of language and the therapeutic possibilities of philosophy.  These essays explore the importance of this topic in Wittgenstein’s thought, suggesting its pertinence to the role of philosophy in a new century.
