In this book Buchanan analyzes the nature and history of law and its relationship with politics and displays his extensive knowledge of Western intellectual heritage drawing on sources from nearly all Western cultures since Classical Greece. Although written over a 15 year period, the essays together present a coherent, readable version of what Buchanan viewed as society’s fundamental political proble and a prescription for reform.
