We educate students to become knowledgeable about the world of food and nutrition. We have courses for majors and nonmajors. Our students become nutritionists and registered dietitians*.
Nutrition is a very exciting discipline that requires that you know something from almost every discipline. You receive a foundation in the biomedical sciences complemented by courses from psychology to business, the food industry, philosophy and even computers.
The Future of the field is bright:
A quote from Occupational Outlook Handbook, (2006-2007 edition):
"Employment of dietitians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2014"
The Nutrition Department is housed in the Division of Natural Sciences along with the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Math and Computer Science.
The Department has a variety of programs to accommodate those who may want a minor in nutrition to those who wish to meet the requirements to become a Registered Dietitian.
