| Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist This graduate program prepares the RN for advanced practice and board certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist. The curriculum is designed for the adult patient, however a plan of study can be developed to meet certification and practice criteria in Child/Adolescent Psychiatric/Mental Health. In addition, students may add course work from the Family Nurse Practitioner track in order to develop a plan of study that will meet board certification criteria for the Family Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. The master's degree program in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing is designed to be completed on a part-time basis with courses scheduled in the late afternoon and evening hours. Clinical learning experiences occur at a variety of mental health agencies. The Master of Science degree prepares clinical nurse specialists for leadership and change agent roles in mental health promotion and therapeutic clinical practice. They are also prepared to deliver, administer, consult, educate and research as part of the advanced practice role in nursing. Students complete a thesis as a requirement of the program.
