Welcome to The Gengras Center of Saint Joseph College
The Center is a unique, special education program for elementary, middle and high school students with intellectual, developmental, learning disabilities, and related behavioral challenges. The Center is a lab school located on the campus of Saint Joseph College at 1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, Connecticut.
Overview The Gengras Center is a state approved private special education facility that provides a highly structured, intensive, self-contained special education program for elementary, middle and high school students. The program focuses on skill development in the core academic areas, functional application of skills, community life skills, work readiness skills, job training, social development, and independent living skills.
In addition to serving children from all over the state of Connecticut, The Gengras Center also provides the college with an on campus lab school. Saint Joseph College students have access to The Gengras Center to fulfill requirements for classes in such areas as Special Education, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Counseling, and Nutrition. SJC students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they acquire in the college classroom in a real life educational setting at The Gengras Center.
Referrals to the Gengras Center must be made by the local school district through the Planning and Placement Team process. Students from over 50 Connecticut and southern Massachusetts towns attend our school. Local school districts provide transportation to the Gengras Center.
