 | CREC Institute for Health and Medical Science This course explores the science and art of analyzing and promoting healthy behaviors. Focus areas include: nutrition and eating behaviors, exercise physiology and fitness, stress management and other lifestyle choices. In laboratory and field settings students will use a variety of performance equipment and medical technologies to measure various aspects of health status; such as dietary analysis, fitness levels, and basic health indices like blood pressure and heart rate response. Students will apply concepts of motivation and behavior change to design healthy behaviors for themselves and others. The course will also provide an introduction to an array of careers in medicine, allied health, and professional roles in the health and wellness industry. Nutrition Education, Framingham State College, 1980 Ph.D. Human Nutrition, Pennsylvania State University, 1994 Professor Gaughan is an Associate Professor of Nutrition and Director of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics at Saint Joseph College, in West Hartford, CT. With 20 years of experience as a nutrition educator, Professor Gaughan has designed hundreds of presentations for dietitians, health professionals, students, and the lay public. Professor Gaughan is also a clinical consultant specializing in weight management and fitness counseling. She is the author of “The Nutrition Coach”, training workshop and manual. Her current research focuses on nutrition assessment and heart healthy eating behavior changes in clinical and community populations. High school teachers and teacher assistants are being selected.
