A Degree for the Way Women and Men Live and Learn

Gain the knowledge and skills you'll need to work with children as a professional. You'll study the varied contexts in which children develop, including family, school, community, and culture.

Exciting curriculum, flexible schedule
Courses are available in the evenings, supplemented by elective and other required coursework on the weekends. Field work placements are possible at your own work site if you already work in early care and education. A minor in Business Administration is available for students who need background in running child care programs and supervising other adult professionals.

  • Cross Cultural Studies of Children and Families (3 credits)
  • Child Development, Advanced Child Development (6 credits)
  • Racial and Ethnic Groups or Inequality in America (3 credits)
  • Related electives (6 credits)
  • Field Study (3 credits)
  • Internship (3 credits)
  • Coordination Seminar (3 credits)

General Education
Courses in: Religious Studies, Philosophy, Fine Arts, Language and Literature, Social Science, Math, Laboratory Science, Physical Education, Liberal Arts electives.

Parking
Only $25 each year, conveniently located near your classrooms.

Accelerated Options Include
Transfer credits, credit for life experience, credit by standardized exams, intensive courses in winter, spring and summer.

Internships
The School for Young Children on Steele Road, near the campus, The School for Young Children on Asylum Hill in Hartford, and The Gengras Center on campus offer opportunities for observations, field work, and practice. Other community agencies and schools offer opportunities for internships as well.

You can become a leader in caring for children, a teacher, or a director of an early care facility. Your expertise will prepare you for almost any job where knowing and working with children is a priority.
