The Gengras Center-Greater Hartford Jaycees Greenhouse is an exciting project that promises exceptional benefits to our students on many different levels:

Social / Emotional - providing opportunities for students to nurture and care for living things

Academic- Hands-on experience for science instruction in Life Science and environmental studies disciplines

Life Skills - Development of life-long leisure activities that our students can have in common with non-disabled peers, as well as providing opportunities for shared family activities

Vocational - Affording a realistic career experience for Gengras' vocational student workers by establishing a "Garden Center" useful in developing gardening, planning, budgeting, scheduling, and monetary skills that will be showcased in a "work experience summary" similar to a student resume that demonstrates their skills and know-how.
