Lecture at St. John’s on Freedom of Speech

St. John’s College tutor William Braithwaite will give a lecture titled “What is Free Speech for the Sake of?” at St. John’s College. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium on Friday, September 14, at 8:15 p.m.
The lecture will consider the extent to which four recent United States Supreme Court rulings are consistent with the original intention of the First Amendment and the language of the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
Braithwaite received his bachelor of arts from the Virginia Military Institute and his juris doctorate from Washington and Lee University. He was an associate professor of law at Loyola University from 1979 until 1995, when he joined the faculty at St. John’s College.
