SJC Offers New Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis
The Connecticut Department of Higher Education approved a new Saint Joseph College Psychology graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The five-course sequence is the only Connecticut program approved by the national Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB®) for meeting the standards of education and experience needed to sit for the national certification examination — a requirement in becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®). Following completion of the 15-credit course sequence and 1,500 hours of supervised fieldwork, master’s level students in the ABA program will be eligible to sit for the certification exam offered by the BACB®.
The increase in prevalence of autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities over the past decade has fueled the need for improved educational and behavioral services across the lifespan. Programs utilizing applied behavior analytic procedures are now housed in school, clinical, and home-based settings. Employment opportunities for individuals with graduate level ABA training have risen substantially to meet these emerging needs.
