SJC Pharmacy Program Awarded Federal Stimulus Funding

Earlier this past year, Saint Joseph College submitted a request for federal funding to support its new School of Pharmacy. On December 10, 2009, Connecticut Senators Christopher J. Dodd (D - CT) and Joseph I. Lieberman (ID - CT) announced that the College’s Pharmacy program would receive $175,000 as part of the federal government’s Consolidated Appropriations Act.

This news came to us just days after we publicly announced the Pharmacy School location at Hartford 21 in downtown Hartford. The federal stimulus funds assist us in moving forward on this important initiative, one that is beneficial not only to Saint Joseph College, but also to the Connecticut community. The School of Pharmacy, which will accept its first class of doctoral students in fall 2010, will generate jobs, address society’s growing need for pharmacists, and stimulate the economic vitality of our capital city.

Saint Joseph College President Pamela Trotman Reid, Ph.D. said, “I am grateful for the government’s recognition of Saint Joseph College and the support of our senators. I would also like to thank everyone who advocated on our behalf, especially Congressman John B. Larson (D - CT).”
