Student Health Services

Saint Joseph College Health Services is located in the Little Red House. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the nine month academic calendar year. The office is open until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and is closed for lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (except for emergencies). During the summer the office is open for record processing and administrative services on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. from June 15 until August 15.

The Health Services office is regularly staffed by a nurse practitioner and a registered nurse. A physician and registered dietitian are also available by appointment on a weekly basis. The staff provides care for common illnesses and injuries. An appointment is not necessary for most services. There is no fee or insurance charge for services provided in the office. Starting doses of over-the-counter and some prescription medications are available. Any full-time student who has submitted the required health records may use the office. Students do not have to be a participant in school affiliated insurance plan (see below) to receive services in the office.

All matriculated students born in or after 1957, including part-time and graduate students, are required to submit records pertaining to MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccination. If immunization records are not available, please submit a laboratory report showing immunity to these illnesses. All matriculated students are also required to submit vaccine records or blood test results for varicella (chickenpox). Please note that a second dose of varicella vaccine is now required. For individuals reporting prior natural illness, health care provider verification of illness is necessary. Only individuals born in the United States before 1980 will be exempted from the varicella requirements. All full-time undergraduate students enrolling in the college are required to submit a physical examination form.  Residential students must have a meningitis vaccination(s) on file before taking occupancy of campus housing. For more information about our health requirements, please consult the forms menu.

Health sciences students (nursing, pharmacy and dietetic interns) have additional  health requirements; please review the Saint Joseph College physical form and department materials for further detail.  Additionally, health sciences students are not eligible for date of birth related  immunization exemptions for MMR and varicella.

All full-time undergraduate, residential, international  and pharmacy students are required to maintain health insurance coverage while attending Saint Joseph College. A health insurance fee will be applied to the accounts of all students in the required categories in the fall and spring semesters of each academic year. In order to receive a credit for this fee students covered by another plan must perform an annual waiver procedure The waiver function can be easily accessed on mySJC from the "Quick Links" menu. Part -time and graduate students registered for 6 or more credits per semester may elect to enroll in the student insurance plan; enrollment in this case is done directly with the insurance provider Consolidated Health Plans at their web site: www.chpstudent.com
