Rho Zeta Chapter of Beta Beta Beta

You’ll be a member for LIFE!

Promote scholarship in the biological sciences, promote the dissemination of biological knowledge, and to encourage research. The Rho Zeta Chapter of Beta Beta Beta brings students who are dedicated to the biological sciences together. Participants are involved in several avenues: social events, community service, and fundraising among others. The aims of the Rho Zeta Chapter are to develop the participants by colloquiums for research, outreaching to the community through community service, and women leadership in the biological sciences.

Benefits

Each semester, we take part in at least one community service project. In the past, we have cleaned Trout Brook (above) and made sandwiches for the BREAD group that gives them to local shelters.

Community Service

Our chapter has opened opportunities such as UConn Health Center internships, various conferences for both global warming and research, as well as independent study opportunities with connected professors.

Research/Internships

Our social and events director schedules at least one social event each semester which might include a simple end of the year social, bowling, or decorating Rosalind Franklinstein for Halloween.

Social Events

Being a member is one step closer to leadership opportunities such as an executive officer and making connections with professors and the executive council which includes the college deans and president. These connections lead to employment and research opportunities.

Leadership

Beta Beta Beta has its own publication journal called BIOS to which members can submit their research papers to be published. Members have also had articles of past events published in the Hartford Courant and SJC’s On Campus journal.

Publication

There are definitely plenty of opportunities for presenting. Members have presented at our college’s symposium day, at chapter meetings, as well as regional and national conferences.

Public Speaking/Presentations

One of our biggest fundraisers has been the Cutest Puppy Contest which we have done the past two years. This year, we are doing the “Cutest Genes” Contest.

Marketing & Fundraising

Each year our chapter advertises local career fairs that can help you find a job before you graduate. Also, being connected with faculty and staff helps connect you with employment opportunities.
