Annapolis Orientation and Convocation Fall 2021
To our Freshman Class of 2025 and the newest members of the Graduate Institute:
We are excited to formally welcome you into the St. John’s College community!
Convocation is the official beginning of a St. John’s College career, and where new undergraduate and Graduate Institute students are welcomed into the college by the President, Dean, and Associate Dean at the start of the fall semester.
All new students will be invited to sign the College Register during the Convocation Ceremony.

Monday, August 23, 2021
9 a.m.–12 p.m. | FSK Lobby & Mellon Corridors
New Student Sign-in & Key Pick-Up: Complete all of the business and administrative steps to register for the fall semester and sign out your dorm room key.
9 a.m.–5 p.m. | Residence Halls
Student Move-in: Meet your Resident Advisor (RA), roommate, hall mates, and get settled in your room. Also, use this time to make a last minute trip to pick-up any essentials you may have forgotten.
11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. | Dining Hall
Lunch: Remember your student ID card.

Health and Wellness: Meet with our Executive Director of Wellness to learn about Health Center Services, ADA, and Title IX and Anti-Harassment and Discrimination.

Resiliency in College: One of our college counselors will go over stress management skills and outline things you can do to stay connected to and supported by your new community.

Living in a Small Academic Community: The Director and the Coordinator of Student Services will explain the policies and principles that guide life in the Residence Halls and on campus and discuss ways you can support each other in being upstanding members of the Polity.

New Student Engagement: Hear from the New Student Engagement Coordinator about activities that will be held throughout the year as you grow into being a Johnnie.

Learning at St. John’s: Gather in small groups to talk about classes and school work at the college. Learn from upper class students about ways to engage fully in the classroom, how to keep up with your readings, why your Core Group can be important, etc. Please check your Orientation Folder for your “Inside the Classroom” Group Assignment.

Freshmen meet with the Dean and Members of the Instruction Committee: The Instruction Committee is a group of Tutors responsible for looking carefully at the Program of Instruction. You will learn why we do what we do and about the various parts of the program. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the intellectual life of the college.
