The Hodson Trust recently awarded St. John’s College $2.5 million, with $1 million for the college’s internship program and $1.5 million for financial aid for undergraduates enrolled at the Annapolis campus of this independent, coeducational four-year college. St. John’s students pursue an interdisciplinary curriculum that provides an in-depth, rigorous exploration of the most influential ideas as experienced in the original works of the great writers, philosophers, and scientists.

Approximately 70 percent of St. John's students receive need-based financial aid; the college also grants merit aid. The Hodson Scholar awards and the Hodson Foundation Scholarships are provided to those students attending the Annapolis, Maryland campus who demonstrate academic promise and financial need.  These scholarships help ensure that St. John’s is affordable for students from families at all income levels.

In addition, the generous Hodson Trust grant supports increases to a robust internship program for undergraduates. Through the Hodson Trust Internship program, St. John’s undergraduates can spend the summer exploring a wide range of careers; they intern in organizations such as:  Johns Hopkins School of Medicine; U.S. Naval Observatory; Arete Wealth Management; Library of  Congress; World Bank; Maryland Office of the Public Defender; the University of Chicago’s Institute for Mind & Biology;  the Institute for Behavioral Genetics at the University of Colorado, Boulder; Tufts University’s Advanced Integrated Circuits and Systems Lab, as well as investment companies, education  and arts programs, and entrepreneurial ventures in the United States, Asia and Africa, and other locales around the world.

“We are grateful to the Hodson Trust for these very generous grants that add to the college’s endowment. The internship program enables students to gain valuable experience in careers of their choice. And the Trust’s continued support for financial aid means that the college can provide scholarships for qualified students,”  says Barbara Goyette, vice president for advancement at St. John’s College.
