Croquet 2015 Coverage


  • 8 to 9 a.m. – 5K Memorial Fun(d) RunMeet on back campus by the Planetarium
    Hosted by the Friends of the Lawrence L. Saporta, Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship Fund, to raise money to support the college’s memorial endowment funds. Registration opens March 2.
  • 9:30 a.m. – Alumni Welcome Center opens for seminar check-in – Great Hall
  • 10 to 11:30 a.m.  Tutor-led Alumni-Student Seminars on “Shakespeare’s Memory” by Jorge Luis Borges. Registration opens March 2. Reading found here.
  • Noon to 1 p.m.  Reception for Graduate Institute Alumni and StudentsBarr Buchanan Center Hartle Room

  • Noon to 5 p.m.   Alumni Welcome CenterGreat Hall – Open to St. John’s College Alumni Only. Wine, Champagne and beer bars available. Complimentary cucumber sandwiches, strawberries and, and lemonade will be served.
  • 1 p.m. – St. John’s College vs. U.S. Naval Academy Croquet Match  Front Campus
  • 4 p.m.  – Wine and Beer Ticket Tents Close
  • 4:30 p.m.  – Wine and Beer Tents Close
  • 5 to 6 p.m. – Trophy Awarded to Winners by Mayor Mike Pantelides
  • 10 p.m.  The Spring Cotillion, featuring the Craig Sparks Swingtet – Randall Dining Hall
    Formal attire requested

Ground Rules

To ensure a grand, family-friendly lawn party, please note the following ground rules:

  • No outside alcohol permitted on campus.
  • All guests wishing to purchase and/or consume alcohol must show identification (proof of age)
    and will be given a wrist band.
  • Champagne, wine, and beer will be available only with tickets.
  • Food and soft drinks will be available for cash purchase on campus.
  • Grills and pets are not permitted on campus.
  • Coolers and bags are subject to inspection.
  • There will be four designated entrances to the match site.
  • Guests are not permitted to set up spaces before 10 a.m. on the morning of the match. Alumni attending morning seminars and students living on campus are the exception.
  • Only lawn chairs, blankets, and tables lower than two feet are permitted in the area around the match site.
  • Purchased alcohol is not permitted outside the match grounds.
  • We ask guests to kindly remove all trash from their spaces and leave in designated areas.
  • All personal items must be removed from the campus by 7 p.m. or they become the property of St. John’s College.

For St. John’s College Alumni planning to come Croquet, there will be a raffle where three lucky alumni can win a one night stay (April 18) at the Robert Johnson House, compliments of the Historic Inns of Annapolis.
