GERONTOLOGY - Undergraduate Minor OR CERTIFICATE

As the population grows older, the understanding of human development and aging becomes more important.  In response to this, the Human Development and Family Studies Gerontology program provides an interdisciplinary approach to understanding aging as a process of life-long development.  This program promotes understanding of the nature of aging, socially constructed definitions of aging, public policy, and systems and networks for promoting human development.  We prepare students to work with aging individuals and their families in a range of social service or educational settings.

Our 18 credit undergraduate minor or certificate in Gerontology is designed to compliment a variety of undergraduate degree programs, like Family Studies, Nursing, Social Work and Counseling.
