Overview

As a political science minor at Saint Joseph College, you will develop the skills and abilities demanded by countless professions. The in-depth analysis of political institutions, policies, and cultures leads to the study of important issues relevant to today's complex world. In studying political science, you will broaden your horizons and deepen your knowledge of the political process. If you are interested in trying to make your world a better place or simply wish to understand it, political science may be the perfect minor for you. Highlights of the political science department at Saint Joseph College include:

An Intensive Course of Study
The varied curriculum includes courses such as How Politics Affects Your Life, American Government, International Relations, Political Theory, Constitutional Law, and Women in Politics. This wide range of study will prepare you for careers in government, politics, journalism, law, business and education. Students are offered several program options. In addition to a political science minor, students can minor in public administration.

Requirements
The Political Science minor requires a minimum of 18 credits, including: How Politics Affects your Life, American Government and one of the following: International Relations, Political Philosophy, or Comparative Government.

Internship Opportunities
Internships in political science are generally associated with government and politics. Saint Joseph College students have completed internships at both the state and national level. Recent internships have occurred at the Connecticut State Legislature, the Connecticut General Assembly, the Corporation Counsel of Washington D.C. and the offices of U.S. Senators. Students can elect to arrange a semester in Washington, D.C. and intern and/or study in the nation's capital.

Career Opportunities
Graduates of our program have gone on to successful careers in politics, business, advocacy, law, journalism and more.
