Minor

Overview
As a Public Administration minor at Saint Joseph College, you will develop the skills and abilities demanded by the various public service professions. Subject areas include Public Management, State and Local Government, Public Finance, Personnel Management, Organizational Theory, and Public Policy. In studying Public Administration, you will begin to prepare for public service as either a career or avocation. If you are interested in trying to make the world a better place or simply wish to understand it, Public Administration may be the perfect minor for you. Highlights of the Public Administration minor at Saint Joseph College include:

An Intensive Course of Study
The varied curriculum includes courses such as American Public Administration, Public Policy: Health Education & Social Welfare, Criminal Justice, The American Legal Environment, and State and Local Government. This wide range of study will prepare you for careers in government, not-for-profit organizations, journalism, law, business, and education. Students are offered several program options. In addition to a Public Administration minor, students can minor in Political Science.

Requirements
The Public Administration minor requires a minimum of 18 credits, including: How Politics Affects Your Life, American Government, American Public Administration and at least three Public Administration electives. Students should work closely with their advisors to design a program particularly suited to their career interests and needs.

Internship Opportunities
Internships in Public Administration are generally associated with government bureaucracies and non-profit civic or public service organizations. Internships are available at the local, state, and national government level as well as with business and lobby groups. Students can elect to arrange a semester in Washington, D.C. and intern/or study in the nation's capitol.

Career Opportunities
Graduates of our program may go on to successful careers in public management, politics, advocacy, business, law, journalism, and more.
