Meet Our Faculty and Staff

Ola Ghoneim, M.Sc, Ph.D.

Dr. Ola Ghoneim joined us from Qatar University where she served as an Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Acting Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Ghoneim received her B.Sc. in Pharmacy and M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Mansoura University, Egypt. She continued her training in the US, where she earned a PhD degree in Medicinal Chemistry from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). After receiving her PhD, she joined the Chemistry department at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) as a postdoctoral fellow. In parallel with her research training at TSRI, she was selected to be the first recipient of the Joint University of San Diego-Scripps Teaching Program and was appointed as a visiting assistant professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department at the University of San Diego.

Dr. Ghoneim’s passion is medicinal chemistry and drug design, and that’s where her teaching and research interests reside. Her research areas focus mainly on designing new therapeutic avenues for Autism Spectrum Disorder. She is an active member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Chemical Society, and the Autism Society of America. Dr. Ghoneim was the recipient of the Professionals from Developing Countries Award for her dedicated research in autism from the International Society of Autism Research. Dr. Ghoneim loves to travel with her husband and two sons to explore new places, and new cultures in her free time.
