Bertram Nicholas, Jr.Bertram A. Nicholas Jr., R.Ph., Ed.D. has been involved in Pharmacy education for approximately 30 years. Dr. Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and a Master of Science in Pharmacology from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston. He went on to earn his doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University.

Dr. Nicholas most recently served as associate professor, department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Worcester, Mass. (MCPHS-W) where he taught Pharmacy Law, Pharmaceutics Lab, Pharmacy Calculations and Nonprescription Medications. At MCPHS-W, he served on the admissions committee, curriculum committee and was faculty advisor to both the National Community Pharmacists Association student chapter and the Racquetball Club.

While serving as director of External Programs at Howard University's College of Pharmacy in Washington, Dr. Nicholas managed the recruitment of sites, development of preceptors and placement of students in their experiential rotations. During his tenure in that position, he developed unique sites and assigned students for specialized rotations including several Indian Health Clinics, The United States Pharmacopeial Convention, and the Food and Drug Administration.

Earlier in his academic career, Dr. Nicholas was recognized for developing and managing the first experiential education program in the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston, Mass. which involved recruitment of sites and preceptors, training of the preceptors, assignment of students to their individual rotations, visiting the sites to assure that students were receiving appropriate education, as well as evaluation of the sites and preceptors. Dr. Nicholas eventually became chair of the department of Pharmacy and continued to oversee the management of the experiential program for many years.

A licensed pharmacist who has practiced Pharmacy throughout his professional career, Dr. Nicholas has taught courses in Nonprescription Medication, Dispensing Pharmacy, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacy Law and Pharmaceutical Calculations. He holds professional memberships in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy; National Community Pharmacists Association; Boston Druggists Association (Treasurer, member of Board of Directors); Rho Chi Pharmacy Education Honor Society; Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society; Phi Delta Chi Pharmaceutical Fraternity.

Dr. Nicholas  has received numerous professional honors and awards throughout his distinguished career including: Massachusetts College of Pharmacy Teacher Appreciation Award (2002 through 2007 and 2009); Howard University Excellence in Teaching Award (1997); Honored Faculty, Howard University College of Pharmacy (1991-1998); Phi Delta Chi Outstanding Alumnus Award (1997); U.S. Army Commendation Medal (1973, 1974, 1986); U.S. Army Achievement Medal (1972, 1975, 1985); and a National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star.

Outside of the classroom, Dr. Nicholas is an avid racquetball player and has served as director of the Worcester Central YMCA Racquetball League for the past seven years.
