Catherine H. Posteraro, M.S., M.A., '92

Catherine Posteraro has centered her professional life on the belief that Information Literacy lies at the core of lifelong learning, and professional excellence. It empowers students to seek, evaluate, use, and create information to achieve their personal and professional goals. Catherine believes that these skills are critical necessities for our future pharmacists who will take them into their various communities to enable the individuals they serve to live happier, healthier and more productive lives.
Catherine began working at Saint Joseph College in 1984 and became an Associate Professor of Information Resources. She left to accept the challenge of a National Institutes of Health Grant to open The Health Learning Center at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Here the focus was on teaching health information literacy skills to patients so that they could find accurate and actionable health information. Later she worked as a Clinical Librarian at Saint Francis Hospital. Catherine has since returned to Saint Joseph College. She is excited for this opportunity to use her experience working with patients, physicians and other healthcare professionals to enhance her effectiveness. The most important of her tasks is the preparation of students for a lifetime of purposeful learning and professional excellence thru the development of information literacy skills. It is important to her to provide the tools students will need to work within a increasingly complex, information based technology dependent, healthcare system.
Catherine received an AB Degree from Emmanuel College in Boston, her MS in Library Science from Simmons College in Boston, and her MA in Human Development and Gerontology from Saint Joseph College. She is a member of the Libraries/Educational Resources Section of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and The Medical Library Association. In her free time she works with Leadership Greater Hartford and enjoys helping to nudge the city toward a vision of a renewal and reinvigoration.
