Experiential Education Information

Experiential education is a key element of the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum and it includes two major components which are the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) and the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE).  The IPPE’s begin in the very first semester and are offered concurrently with didactic classes to reinforce learning experience.  They are scheduled as one full day per week over a 5-week period during the fall and spring semesters of the P1 and P2 years and one 4-week (40 hrs/wk) segment between the P1and P2 years.  The six, 6-week APPE’s that occur during the final year of the curriculum integrate classroom knowledge, professional performance and professionalism in addition to ensuring competency in the provision of patient care.  They include four required rotations (one each in institutional/hospital practice, advanced community practice, Ambulatory Care and Adult Acute Care) and two elective rotations.
