American Studies: Bachelor of Arts
American Studies is a desirable major in today's world because of its broad
applicability. Our program is interdisciplinary, focusing on American life and culture
- its origins, development, and contemporary expression. The American Studies
major will encourage you to think of culture as a dynamic and contested domain.
Students in the program combine areas of interest to create a tailor-made program
of study. Some examples include American Studies combined with Native American
literature, labor history, film studies, or decorative arts.
Internships
Internships for college credit are available at historical societies, corporations,
government agencies, museums, and community non-profits. Access to the dayto-
day operation of these professional environments provides invaluable insight
and experience when planning a career. Students majoring in American Studies
hold internships at the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Connecticut
Historical Society, the Connecticut Senate Majority Office, and local law firms
and libraries.
