Prospective January Freshmen

Aid for the January Freshman Program

Every year, the St. John’s offers January admission to a select group of students called “January Freshmen” in Santa Fe. Students will start their year in early January and continue through the summer term, becoming sophomores.

Step 1: Applying for Financial Aid at St. John’s College

US citizens and permanent residents applying for need-based financial aid must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). International students applying for need-based financial aid must submit the CSS Profile. US citizens and permanent residents, and their parents, will need an FSA ID to apply online for financial aid and to sign Master Promissory Notes (MPN) for loans. Your FSA ID will be used every year to apply for aid as you continue through school. January freshmen must apply as soon as they are admitted to St. John’s. Apply to get an FSA ID.

  1. Complete the Free Application Student Financial Aid (FAFSA) and submit it to the Federal Processor with your FSA ID (student and parent). FAFSA code is 002093 (Santa Fe).
  2. Once you have been accepted to St. John’s, the Financial Aid office will import your FAFSA and determine your eligibility for Federal, Institutional, and if a New Mexico resident, State Aid. A financial aid award letter will be sent to you to review, accept, or decline. Sign, date, scan, and return the letter to the Financial Aid office at santafe.financialaid(at)sjc.edu.

Step 2: Verification

  1. The request for additional documents needed from the student is done at the time the financial aid award letter is sent. Some of these forms can be printed from our website under Forms and Resources.
  2. If your file has been selected by the federal processor for a process called Verification, you will need to submit verification documents to the Financial Aid office. A missing document letter will be sent to you with a list of the required documents.
  3. All verification documents are to be returned to the Financial Aid Office via fax at 410-626-2885 for Annapolis and 505-984-6164 for Santa Fe, mailed to the college, or scanned and forwarded to the office via email.

Step 3: Loan Processing

  1. Students interested in applying for educational loans listed on their financial aid award letter need to complete a Master Promissory Note and entrance counseling on the studentloans.gov website.
  2. Parents who are interested in applying for the PLUS Loan need to complete a PLUS Master Promissory Note and PLUS application on the studentloans.gov website.
  3. When you arrive at St. John’s College for registration, you will receive your registration form. If ‘Financial Aid’ is highlighted on your form, you will need to stop by the Financial Aid office to review your file with them.

Step 4: Disbursement of Funds

Once all documents are received and your Financial Aid file is complete, your financial aid awards will be processed and disbursed to your student account.
